In the early 1980's I was superintendent of a private prep school K-12. A World War II retired U.S. Marine came by and volunteered to help around the campuses. He only needed a place to sleep. What a blessing.

Recently as Laila and I passed through a crowded airport we experienced the normal intense moments of going through security. There were hundreds of people queued in a circuitous line preparing to walk through x-ray machines. Laila got caught and had to re-cycle. She had forgotten to take off a pedometer that counts the number of steps in a day. read more »
Dirt between my toes was part of life until about age 10, when the family farm was exchanged for a house with a garden. I learned a lot of lessons on the farm.
